From 18th to 21st August 2025, extension officers are gathered at Drylands Natural Resource Centre in Mbumbuni, Makueni County, for a 4-day intensive training to strengthen agroecology. The County Government of Makueni is finalising their Agroecology Policy, and having a team of TOTs to train farmers on agroecology will ensure it is cascaded at the grass-roots level.
Mr Martin Munyau, Deputy Director, County Department of Agriculture, presented about the Draft Agroecology Policy, objectives and implications for extension work.
Key topics being covered include:
1. Agroecology & Food Systems
2. Living Soils & Soil Amendments (Bokashi, Biochar, Organic Inputs)
3. Agronomic Practices โ water management, agroforestry & IPM.
4. Seed Saving, Marketing, Certification & Value Addition
5. Digital Platforms for Agroecology
Together, we are building resilient food systems for Makueni County and beyond.
The master trainers are derived from the PELUM Kenya Network in Pelum Kenya.
